A prolific thief has been jailed for a champagne shoplifting spree when he stole goods worth almost £3,000 from supermarkets and other stores over three months.
Daniel Rogers, 34, formerly of Trinity Field, Lower Beeding, and Findon Way, Broadbridge Heath, has a long track record of similar offences, particularly in the Horsham area.
The former cleaner even has form for stealing champagne, having taken some in a burglary eight years ago in Brighton Road, Monks Gate, near Horsham, while the owners were asleep.
On that occasion, Rogers was jailed for three years and four months for burglary and theft and six months for aggravated vehicle taking, to be served concurrently, or at the same time.
He and his accomplices stole a couple of cars and led the police on a high-speed chase before fleeing on foot, only to be tracked down by a police dog.
At the end of last month, he started serving a shorter sentence – of just six weeks.
And today Sussex Police said: “A man has been jailed for prolific shoplifting across West Sussex.
“Daniel Rogers, of no fixed address, stole over £2,900 worth of goods from supermarkets and retailers.
“The 34-year-old would pretend to shop in an attempt to not raise suspicion with fellow shoppers.
“CCTV shows him taking items that would later be discarded in other aisles, returning to aisles to pick up more items and attempting to hide behind aisles as he stashed the goods in duffel bags and carrier bags.

“His three-month spree from July to October this year included 24 bottles of champagne, six speakers, three jackets and an assortment of other alcohol.
“Rogers was arrested on Tuesday 21 October and swiftly charged the same day with 13 counts of theft from a shop.
“He was remanded in custody and the next day appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty on all counts.
“Rogers was jailed for six weeks.”
