A burglar or burglars stole gold in a series of targeted burglaries, police believe.

Sussex Police said this afternoon (Friday 30 October): “Following recent burglaries in Brighton, Portslade and Shoreham, we’re encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.”

The burglaries happened on Saturday 24 October, last Sunday (25 October) and yesterday (Thursday 29 October).

Sussex Police said: “Four properties, all occupied by families of South Asian heritage, were targeted in offences where gold is believed to have been the primary target.

“Investigations into the incidents have been launched and officers continue to carry out inquiries to identify those responsible.”

Detective Inspector Duncan Lloyd said: “While we do not want to cause unnecessary alarm, by raising awareness of these incidents, extra steps can be taken to enhance security at home.

“Simple measures such as securely storing valuables, leaving a light on in the evenings and checking doors and windows are properly locked can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“If you’ve witnessed any behaviour that stood out as suspicious, have any information to report or if you believe attempts may have been made to enter your address, we urge you to come forward and contact police.”

Sussex Police added: “Reports can be made online or by calling 101, quoting reference 47260245228. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always dial 999.”
