Fire crews put out house fire in Peacehaven

Flats over a parade of shops were evacuated in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 20 September) when a car smashed into a frontage and caught fire.

The resulting blaze gutted a couple of the shops, in Sutton Road, Seaford, and appeared to have damaged a neighbouring shop called Wildfire Vape.

Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a fire and damage was caused to a shopfront in Seaford.

“Emergency services were called to the scene in Sutton Road at about 2.20am on Sunday, 20 September.

“A Suzuki Ignis vehicle crashed into the shopfront and caught fire, causing significant damage to the building.

“Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, there were no reported injuries and the fire was extinguished by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.”

The fire service finished putting out the fire by 4am.

Sussex Police added: “Officers are investigating and are seeking to trace the driver of the Suzuki.

“They are also appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant information, including CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone and dashcam footage of the incident or anything suspicious in the area, to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or call 101 and quote serial 149 of 20/09.”
