Man suffers serious injuries in A259 hit and run

A van driver has been arrested after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash.

The accident happened shortly before midday yesterday (Thursday 2 April) on the A281 Alfold bypass at Cranleigh.

The van driver, a 24‑year‑old man, from Crawley, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The motorcyclist, a man in his sixties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Surrey Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Cranleigh yesterday.

“A temporary road closure was in place. This was lifted shortly after 7pm.

“The driver of the van, a 24-year-old man, from Crawley, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

“The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Were you in the area between 11.30am and 11.45am? We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to get in touch.

“We are also seeking CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or helmet cam footage that may have captured all or part of this incident.
