A jury has been sworn in the trial of four people charged with conspiring to throw drugs and mobile phones over the wall into Lewes Prison.
Yaanan Reid, 27, Fatimaalzhra Yousif, 23, Chukwuemeka Anumnne, 30, and Jay Lindo, 31, deny conspiring to commit the offences together – charges that they all deny.
A fifth defendant, Jahmal Swaby, 27, of Conduit Way, Brent, London, previously pleaded guilty to throwing cannabis, cannabis resin, mobile phones, SIM cards and phone cables into the prison grounds.
Reid has pleaded not guilty to having a mobile phone inside the prison – and he and Yousif also deny conspiring to transfer criminal funds or make payments linked to the contraband.
Anumnne denied a charge of having a knife at The Gallops, in Lewes, close to the prison.
The offences are alleged to have happened in 2023.
The jurors were sworn at Hove Crown Court this afternoon (Monday 23 March).
Judge Roger Chapple told them that the trial could last up to four weeks.
The trial continues.
