A woman has reported being raped in a car park this evening (Wednesday 11 March).

Sussex Police said: “Police are investigating a report of a woman having been raped in Worthing on Wednesday evening (11 March).

“The incident is believed to have taken place in Lyndhurst Road Car Park shortly after 8pm.

“The victim – a woman in her twenties – is being supported by specialist officers and a fast-moving investigation is under way.”

Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera said: “We are at the early stages of this investigation and the victim will continue to receive our full support as this progresses.

“Detectives are exploring a number of lines of enquiry to identify and locate a suspect.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area overnight and into the morning, with a closure of the car park expected during the day as we gather and preserve any evidence.

“Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Blyth.”
