A helicopter has crashed in a field in West Sussex this afternoon (Friday 15 August).
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 2.06pm today to a light aircraft crash near Patching.
“Joint fire control mobilised two fire engines and an off-road vehicle to the scene.
“Upon arrival, crews found a helicopter crashed in a field. Firefighters made the scene safe.
“Sussex Police and paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
“Crews left the scene shortly after 4pm.”
The crash appeared to have been from a low altitude and the pilot was able to walk away from the damaged aircraft.
He was understood to have been the only person aboard.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is to investigate.
