Suspected fare dodger attacks ticket inspector on train

A suspected fare dodger attacked a ticket inspector on a train, leaving him with a small fracture to his neck and a chipped tooth and in need of stitches to his lip.

The British Transport Police (BTP) said today (Tuesday 15 July): “Detectives investigating an assault on a member of rail staff member in Sussex have released this CCTV image in connection.

“At around 1pm on Friday 4 July the On-Board Supervisor asked a man and woman to leave the train at Billingshurst railway station as they did not have tickets.

“The man punched the Supervisor in the face, causing him to fall back and hit his head.

“He sustained a small fracture to his neck, a chipped tooth and needed five stitches to his lip.

“Detectives believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help with their investigation.

“Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 405040 quoting reference 286 of 4 July.

“Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
