One person was treated by paramedics after a fire in a flat in Eastbourne this afternoon.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to the A2021 Whitley Road shortly before 3pm.
The blaze was reported to be out and a fan was being used to clear smoke.
The fire service said: “We were called at 2.52pm on Thursday 17 April to reports of a fire at a flat in Whitley Road, Eastbourne.
“Three fire engines are currently in attendance from Eastbourne and Pevensey.
“Crews used four breathing apparatus and one hose-reel jet to extinguish the fire and are currently using a positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fan for smoke clearance.
“Please avoid the area.
“A further update will be provided at 4.30pm.”
The fire service later issued an update, saying: “As of 4.23pm one fire engine and one officer remain on scene.
“One casualty has been handed over to the care of the ambulance service.”
