Eight fire engines were sent to a blaze in a second-floor flat in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday 13 April).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that firefighters were sent to a flat fire in Upperton Road, in Eastbourne, at 12.23am yesterday.
The fire service said: “Seven appliances and an aerial ladder platform are currently at the scene and two main jets are being used to tackle the fire on the second floor of the building.
“Locals are advised to close all doors and windows and to avoid the area to allow emergency services to deal with the situation.
In an update at 2.20am, the fire service said: “Please avoid the area as the incident was escalated to eight appliances.
“The fire is now extinguished and under control.
“Emergency services will remain at the scene but appliances are expected to be scaled back.”
And in a further update at 8.37am, the fire service added: “All appliances have left the scene.
“The stop message came in at 7.12am.
“A fire investigation will be carried out.”
