A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after fire took hold in a former night club late last night (Monday 31 March).
The 24-year-old is suspected of starting the blaze that damaged the old NME night club, in Terminus Road, Eastbourne.
The fire service said: “Six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, the command unit and a number of officers have been in attendance.”
They were called just after 11pm and firefighters remained at the scene dealing with the blaze and the immediate aftermath until shortly before 6am today.
Sussex Police said: “Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a fire at a former night club in Eastbourne yesterday.
“Emergency services were called to reports of a large fire on the top floor of a building in Terminus Road, Eastbourne, at around 11.10pm.
“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service brought the fire under control while police officers conducted inquiries around the circumstances.
“A 24-year-old man, from Eastbourne, was arrested a short while later on suspicion of committing arson and remains in custody at this time.
