Fire damaged flats in Worthing in the early hours of Christmas Day, with eight fire engines sent to the scene, including an aerial ladder platform.

The callout came shortly after 4am to Victoria Court, a six-storey block of flats in Clifton Road, Worthing.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear but no one was injured.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.18am to reports of a fire involving a residential property in Clifton Road in Worthing.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised seven fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene.

“Upon arrival firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control using one high-pressure hose reel and two covering jets.

“Firefighters remained on scene to ventilate the property.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties as a result of this incident.

“The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
