A new supermarket is to open in the former Hisbe unit in Worthing early next year
Aydo supermarket will sell British, European, Asian and Turkish products from the store in Portland Road.
It hopes to be open by mid-January.
Owner Aydin Unat said: “Hopefully with everything going as planned, we will be opening in mid-January.
“We are planning to supply all British, European, Asian and Turkish products.
“Also, our butcher is going to provide Halal products, there is going to be a fresh bakery, and a grab-and-go dailyfresh meze selection unit.
“So, hopefully something which works well for community.”
Mr Unat also runs Aydo Lounge and Grill at Brighton Marina, which served Turkish and Middle Eastern food.
A planning application to display three illuminated signs on the frontage of the building was submitted to Adur and Worthing Councils last week.
The unit was previously occupied by ethical supermarket Hisbe, which went bust in March owing suppliers and the taxman more than £1 million.
A statement posted on Hisbe’s Facebook page at the time said the company had not been able to “weather the cumulative impacts of covid, inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.”
