Children and teens are being asked what they want from a playground set to be included in a new £3.5 million sports hub.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held this month for the development on the outskirts of Hailsham, which is expected to be completed in 2026.
It will include two floodlit full size 3G pitches, four dual use floodlit netball/tennis courts and two padel tennis courts plus other community facilities such as a café and meeting space and a skate park.
Younger people are now being asked to take part in surveys asking them what they’d like to see in the playground.
Wealden District Council is running two surveys – one for under 12s and primary school children, and one for teenagers.
Council leader Rachel Millward said, “Playparks are a great way for children to exercise, develop independence and confidence and bring communities closer together by creating a space to connect.
“There’s no point investing in something the kids don’t like. As a council, we are interested in the views of our younger residents so that we can build a playpark which is right for them.
“We hope that schools and parents will support children to fill out the survey and help us to design the best possible playparks for their future fun.”
The council has received a grant of £3.5million from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation to build thehub.
Once complete, it will be operated on a not-for-profit basis by the charity Leisure United and managed by The National Football Trust.
It will be a new partnership arrangement involving Wealden District Council and any surplus income generated from the facility will be reinvested into local grassroots sports.
