A man has been charged with murder after a body was found in Peasmarsh, near Rye, this week.

Stephen Castle, 59, of Hastings Road, Matfield, near Tunbridge Wells, was due in court yesterday charged with the murder of 54-year-old Wayne Woodgate.

Kent Police said: “A suspect had been charged with the murder of a man from Tunbridge Wells.

“Wayne Woodgate, 54, had been reported missing on Thursday 17 October, when he was last seen in the Goods Station Road area of the town.

“On Wednesday 23 October, an investigation into his disappearance led officers to a rural location in Peasmarsh where a body was located and which has been identified as Mr Woodgate.

“Stephen Castle, 59, of Hastings Road, Matfield, was arrested on the previous day.

“On the evening of Thursday 24 October, he was charged with murder and remanded in custody.

“He was due appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Friday 25 October).”

Kent Police previously issued a public appeal for dashcam footage from drivers who may have recently travelled on the A268 between Peasmarsh and Four Oaks.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said: “We are specifically requesting any dashcam for journeys made between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on Thursday 17 October and between 8.15am and 8.45am on Sunday 20 October.

“Footage, as well as CCTV and doorbell camera images can be uploaded though the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).

“If you have other information which may assist the investigation, call 01622 652006, quoting reference 46/179489/24.”
