Boy charged with assault and having a weapon after fight outside shopping centre

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with assault and having a weapon after a fight outside a shopping centre earlier this week.

Sussex Police issued a dispersal order after the fight outside the Guildbourne Centre on Monday (14 October) during which two people were reported to have been assaulted.

The dispersal order covered an area south of Teville Road, west of Maderia Avenue and east of Gratwick Road.

Today (Friday 18 October), Sussex Police said: “Police have charged a teenager following an outbreak of disorder in Worthing.

“Officers were called to a report of a fight among a group of young people outside the Guildbourne Shopping Centre at 6.38pm on Monday (14 October).

“A 15-year-old boy from Surrey was arrested and later charged with actual bodily harm, battery and possession of a weapon.

“He has been bailed with strict conditions and is due to appear before Crawley Youth Court on Thursday 14 November.

“A 14-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released, with no further action.

“Police continue to investigate the incident and are appealing for more information to assist with their inquiries.

“Witnesses or anyone with any information or footage is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 985 of 14/10.”
