Man suffers serious injuries in A259 hit and run

Four people were seriously injured when a sewage tanker crashed with a car on a main road this morning (Tuesday 1 October).

The crash happened at about 7am on the A267 at Cross in Hand, close to the junction with the B2102 Mayfield Flat.

The road is likely to remain closed in both directions for several hours, Sussex Police said, while forensic experts work at the scene and the lorry and car are removed.

The force said: “Police investigating a serious collision on the A267 at Cross in Hand are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“The incident, involving a sewage tanker travelling northbound and a black Ford Focus travelling southbound, occurred close to the junction with Mayfield Flat at around 7am on Tuesday 1 October.

“The four occupants of the car were seriously injured. The single occupant of the lorry was uninjured.

“The road is likely to remain closed in both directions for several hours to allow for recovery and forensic examination.

“We’d we’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding. Diversion signs are in place.

“In the meantime, officers are urging anyone who saw what happened to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Operation Hales.

“In particular, police are keen to hear from anyone who drove past but did not stop at the scene who may have dashcam or mobile footage.”
