Worthing Borough Council has approved the purchase of two buildings for a new affordable housing scheme.
The decision to purchase 52 Gratwicke Road for £632,000 and a commitment to then purchase the Worthing Medical Group surgery at 23 Shelley Road, was approved by the council’s head of property services on Thursday, August 15.
The council hopes to turn the two sites into a 100 per cent affordable housing scheme, saying plans are ‘under discussion’ with planners, according to the decision which was published on the council’s website.
It says the Shelley Road surgery would be purchased ‘shortly’ and will be moved into the new Worthing Integrated Care Center (WICC), which is due to be completed in early September.
The decision said if the council did not purchase the site, any redevelopment of the site would be ‘limited’ due to its financial viability being ‘less favourable’.
The decision will officially come into force on Friday, August 23, if not called in by councillors for review.
