A man has been arrested after a fire at a block of flats which is being treated as arson.
The 60-year-old was held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Sussex Police said this afternoon (Monday 26 August): “Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a fire at a block of flats in Worthing this morning.
“Officers supported West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service in Eirene Road from around 2am, following reports of a significant fire.
“Occupants of the flats were evacuated and work is ongoing alongside our partners to ensure those unable to return to their homes are provided with suitable temporary accommodation.
“A 60-year-old man, from Worthing, has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
“He remains in custody at this time.
“Inquiries are ongoing, alongside the fire service, into the full circumstances.
