A car driver has been arrested after a crash left an elderly woman in a critical condition.
The woman was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, with serious injuries after the crash in Bersted, on the edge of Bognor, on Tuesday morning (19 March).
The accident happened on the A2259 Chichester Road, near the petrol station and the corner of Bucksham Avenue, shortly after 6.30am.
Sussex Police said today (Thursday 21 March): “Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Bersted.
“Officers were called to Chichester Road, near the junction of Bucksham Avenue, at around 6.40am on Tuesday 19 March to a report of a woman being hit by a car.
“A 77-year-old local woman was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries and she remains in a critical condition.
“The driver of the green Skoda Octavia, a 53-year-old local man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“He has since been released on police bail while inquiries continue.
