A woman has been arrested after a man was injured in a suspected acid attack early this morning (Sunday 13 September).

Sussex Police said that it was “an incident involving a chemical substance” although the nature of the substance was not made clear at this stage.

The nature and extent of the man’s injuries were not given either as police closed Fletcher Close, in the Southgate area of Crawley, shortly after 5am.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) to a 40-year-old man.

Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to an incident involving a chemical substance which took place at an address in Fletcher Close, Southgate, Crawley, on Sunday 13 September at around 5.10am.

“There is no wider risk to the public.

“A 40-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries and a 40-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

“She has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

“A temporary road closure was in place in Fletcher Close while emergency services remained at the scene.”
