Man suffers serious injuries in A259 hit and run

The A27 is closed both ways after a two-car crash this morning (Sunday 9 November).

One of the cars caught fire and the emergency services are at the scene.

National Highways said: “The A27 in East Sussex is closed in both directions between the A26 (Beddingham) and A22 near (Cophall Roundabout, Polegate) due to a multi-vehicle collision involving two cars.

“One of the vehicles involved in the collision has caught fire.

“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance together with Sussex Police

“National Highways contractors are on scene to assist with traffic management and clear up works.”

Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the A27 at Berwick, near Polegate, at 7am on Sunday (9 November).

“One of the vehicles caught fire and was badly damaged.

“The two drivers were taken to hospital to be checked for injuries.

“The road was closed for vehicle recovery and cleaning and reopened at 10am.”
