£312k for West Sussex village car park improvements

Chichester District Council has agreed to hand over more than £312,000 for improvements to the car park at Tangmere Village Centre.

During a meeting of the full council on Tuesday (October 1), it was agreed that the Section 106 money be released to Tangmere Parish Council for the work.

Section 106 money is made up of contributions from developers who have been allowed to build in the area.

In this case, it came from developments east of Meadow Way and north-east of the Military Aviation Museum and was allocated for improvements to community facilities.

Planning permission was received in 2023 for sub-base and resurfacing work at the car park and the parish council has chosen its preferred contractor to do the job.

Tracie Bangert, cabinet member for communities & wellbeing, said it had been known for years that the gravel park needed ‘significant work’.

She reported that the work would improve accessibility and drainage and cut down on the maintenance needed.

As well as the resurfacing, the work will include the installation of height barriers, speed-bumps, kerbing, landscaping and lighting, as well as demarcation and lining.

The work is expected to start soon and should take 12 weeks to complete.
