Police investigating a report of a rape of a woman in Worthing in the early hours of Saturday morning (25 October) have arrested a man.
Sussex Police said: “A 42-year-old man, from Worthing, has been arrested for rape and he is currently in custody.”
The woman reported being raped in the alleyway between Chatsworth Road and the Guildbourne Centre between 3am and 4am on Saturday.
Detective Inspector Gary Jacobs, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are supporting the victim and we will be maintaining a presence in the area as we continue our investigation.”
Late last night (Sunday 26 October), Detective Inspector Jacobs said: “We appreciate the support the public has given us in our house-to-house inquiries.
“We urge anyone who has yet to contact us with information or CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage in the area of Chatsworth Road between 3am and 4am to contact us on 101 or online, quoting Op Morley.”
Earlier yesterday, police said: “Extensive inquiries are being carried out, including house-to-house inquiries in the vicinity of Chatsworth Road.”
And Detective Inspector Jacobs said: “Anyone with information such as CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage in the area at the time is asked to contact us on 101 or online, quoting Op Morley.”
